BarleyGenomeNet is organized as a network of institutions, based on a cooperation agreement concluded in 2003 among the founding members (IPK, MPIZ, Risoe, SCRI). Until 2014, University of Copenhagen/LIFE, CRA, MTT Agrifood Research/University of Helsinki, University of Dundee, PTP Lodi/University of Milano, Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia joined the network as partners.

The network management consists of:

A steering committee deciding upon the priorities for co-operation and discussing all organisational matters relating to the network. The committee is also responsible for the contents of the annual workshop. The steering committee consists of one member from each network partner institution.

A network co-ordinator elected for a term of two years by the steering committee; re-election shall be possible.The co-ordinator shall be a member of one of the partner institutions.

The network coordinator 2003 Dr. Patrick Schweizer (schweiz-at-ipk-gatersleben.de) from IPK Gatersleben.

Annual workshops are being hosted by the network partners (rotating). Aims of workshops are the exchange of information on the latest scientific results and the co-ordination of joint activities. The scientific workshops are also coordinated with steering-committee meetings.
