BarleyGenomeNet is a European competence network for joint development, processing and use of resources for genome research, thereby focussing in particular on barley as model crop plant.
As a first step towards this goal, a cooperation agreement of the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), the Max-Planck-Institute of Plant Breeding (MPIZ), the James Hutton Institute (JHI) and Risø/Danish Technical University (Risø) has been concluded, which became effective in summer 2003. Until present, the network was been extended to eleven partners including Copenhagen University, faculty of Life Sciences (LIFE), Agricultural Research Council, Genomic Research Center (CRA), MTT Agrifood Research & University of Helsinki, University of Dundee (UOD), Parco Tecnologico Padano (PTP), University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE), as well as Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU)..
The partners of BarleyGenomeNet are also coordinating applications for national and European research and training projects, in order to contribute to strengthening and structuring the European Research Area (ERA). Partners of BarleyGenomeNet are also participating in the International Barley Sequencing Consortium (IBSC, http://www.barleygenome.org).
