Two applications of BarleyGenomeNet partners for transnational projects within the ERA-PG program were successful, and project summaries can be seen by clicking on the links below:

Standard barley genotypes:

BGN partners have agreed upon two standard genotypes of spring barley that shall be used for most future research activities:

American spring malting barley Morex
European spring malting barley Golden Promise

The consistent use of cv Morex, for which considerable physical mapping data are already available, is a prerequisite for structural genomics approaches worldwide leading finally to sequencing of the barley genome. The consequential use of cv Golden Promise, for which highly efficient gene transfer protocols exist, is prerequisite for direct comparison of gene function at an international level.

Cooperations:

The barley resources listed above are the basis for a number of cooperations among BGN partners, some examples are listed below:

  • Informal cooperations for exchange of material, data and for transfer of know-how are ongoing between several partners. Often these include short in-site visits of young scientists.
