Founded in 1997, the Plant Genome Resources Center (PGRC) represents a scientific and technological platform for plant genome analysis in barley (Hordeum vulgare) and other crop species. A central unit offers services for automated DNA sequencing and high throughput arraying, developes bioinformatic tools and provides user support in the field of bioinformatics. Complementary to the service core five modules provide expertise and resources in specific target areas. In addition to the establishment of external research collaborations with partners from both the private and the public sector interdepartmental research projects are linked via the PGRC. Most activities of the PGRC are now located in the new genome center that was inaugurated in September 2000.
